Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and one of the poorest in the world. For years it has struggled with political greed and corruption. In addition, its embedded beliefs in Voodoo have left it covered in a pall of spiritual darkness.
Haitian Christian Ministries (HCM) is bringing light to the darkness in Northern Haiti. Driven by the passion and vision of Pastor Emmanuel Leguerre (Pastor Manno), HCM recognizes that the only way to lead sustainable change is through Christian faith and education. HCM’s first work was to minister to the village of Pillatre (pronounced pea-yot) about 12 miles outside of the city of Cap Haitian. Today Pillatre Christian Center includes a nationally recognized primary, secondary and vocational school with enrollment approaching 1,000 students. Additionally, Pillatre boasts a medical center with a fulltime Medical Doctor, a product of Pillatre Christian School. Dr. Desir and his staff provide much needed services for the entire community. Most recently a new church building that can seat 900 has been opened. This building hosts Bible Studies and services throughout the week, as well as Sunday morning. In the 25 years since Pillatre has been running, literally thousands of individuals have come to Christ, and many more have received an education far superior to most government run schools.
The vision does not stop with Pillatre. Land has been purchased in the village of Lory, which is in near proximity to the highly populous city of Cap Haitian. A new church has been established here, along with the construction of its first building. The goal is to minister to the people of Lory and Cap Haitian in much the same way spiritual & physical needs are being successfully met in Pillatre… through evangelism, education and medical outreach. HCM seeks The Lord’s guidance and blessing on the sustaining work at Pillatre, the work in progress at Lory, so that eventually all of Northern Haiti is reached and served through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
